Saponification!
Carrie and I made three batches of soap last night: Lime-Lemon-Orange (to be named something witty later--suggestions welcome); Peppermint-Tea Tree Oil; and Rose.  Since Mike is partial, there are only photos of me, thoroughly covered and bulgy.  Trust me when I say that Carrie is a very cute, energetic, non-pregnant version of me--thirty five years down the road. ;-)

Loads of stirring.  Carrie's stick blender made it much faster.

Main ingredients: Lye, water, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, castor oil.  Oh yeah, and gloves and bulge.

Essential oil time.  And bulge time.  Can you tell I'm proud?  Someone actually asked me if I'm expecting today!

The soap is all snuggly under cover and Carrie is going to cut it today.  In a month, it will be cured and safe for even the most sensitive of skin.  We plan to make baby soap, too, when the Calendula crop comes in. :-)

The journey's made me so: soapy

A friend of mine is a soap maker, and every once in awhile I get to make soap with her--I love it! Not only is it a wonderful process (so much fun to do with a friend, since it is time consuming and involves a LOT of stirring), but home-made (REAL) soap is superior in every way to store bought soap; it's beautiful, pure, sweet smelling, long lasting, and it FEELS wonderful. Calendula soap is my favorite.

Witty soap name suggestions: citrus splash, citrus suds, LeLO Bar, Sunshine Soap.

Carrie's soap is so wonderful and it's great to be her friend since she's always got some on hand. I used to stockpile it from festivals!

Thanks for the names, I think I'll mail out a bar to the winning namer. :-)

I won't have any in my etsy shop, unless I start making it at my house. Carrie's technique is very simple though, so I'm not ruling it out as a possibility. ;-)

Thanks! I love to be told I'm cute. :-D

Yay for homemade soap and bulgy babies!!!

I love to make soap, too. It's so much fun and is so great for your skin. I love how clean it rinses off and how it doesn't leave soap scum in your tub. And you're right about the stick blender!! I couldn't make soap without mine 'cause I'm lazy. And impatient. :)

Carrie said the first time she made soap she stood and stirred for hours and that her arms ached very badly. Someone quickly told her about the stick blender and she was very glad. She uses a whisk and a blender so the soap doesn't trace too quickly.

I was amazed at how simple and quick it was. When she said she'd make 4 or 5 batches in a day, I couldn't believe it, but now I can. :-)
